DESCRIPTION:THOMAS DOTY PRESENTS "COYOTE\, COLUMBUS\, AND BEESON" AT GOLD HILL LIBRARY\n\n\n\nGold Hill\, Oregon (September 26\, 2019)   Storyteller Thomas Doty will present "Coyote\, Columbus\, and Beeson" on Saturday\, October 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gold Hill Library\, 202 Dardanelles Street. Admission is free to this all-ages event.\n\n\n\nThe performance begins in the "Old Time" when stories are new\, and then explodes into Indian-White contact. Doty's presentation contrasts Native American and European world views\, sheds light on the native people from their homelands\, and tells the story of John Beeson\, Oregon's first human rights activist during the Rogue River War of the 1850s. "Coyote\, Columbus\, and Beeson" presents a powerful blend of cultural loss and hope for what is coming.\n\n\n\nDoty was born in Southern Oregon\, where he still lives. His European ancestors were Mayflower passengers whose descendants traveled the Oregon Trail\, settling near the Rogue River in the 1800s. He also has family connections to Takelma and Shasta ancestors from the native village of Coyote's Paw along the Klamath River near the Oregon-California border. He is the author of Doty Meets Coyote\, a collection of 40 native stories.\n\n\n\n"My stories are for people of all ages\," said Doty. "Children delight in the mythic adventures of Coyote and Bear and Raven.
