The Southern Oregon Historical Society Research Library, one of the “largest archival repositories in the State of Oregon,” announces a program of free backstage tours of its archive. The library collection includes the original 1883 Medford town plat, the Pinto Colvig (Bozo the Clown) papers, and the Peter Britt collection of 5000 glass plate negatives and prints, along with tens of thousands of original newspapers, maps and photographs.
Beginning August 25, and every Saturday thereafter, your library visit can be enriched with a free tour of the Research Library Archive. This is your opportunity to learn more about the rich history of our region and to penetrate the hidden recesses of the staff-only stacks. Following the tour, you’re invited to stay and ask questions, do research, or ask the library volunteers to retrieve that special document, photo or file.
SOHS Research Library, 106 N. Central Avenue in Medford. Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 12pm-4pm. Tours (August 25 and every Saturday thereafter): 2pm-4pm. For questions about the library, free tours, or Jackson County history, call 541-773-6536
