Hanley Farm Scarcrow Festival
Celebrate Hanley Farm’s Ninth Annual Scarecrow Festival
Did you know the Egyptians used scarecrows to protect their fields? As did the Greeks, Romans, Japanese and many other cultures In the centuries-old tradition farmers used to save their crops, you can make your own scarecrow October 5 and 6 at Hanley Farm! When you’ve completed your scarecrow, you can enter it in the Scarecrow Contest and compete for a People’s Choice Award, OR take your scarecrow home with you. Everything you need to make a scarecrow-making is available in a kit. And, while you’re at the farm, plan to take a hayride, paint a pumpkin or bob for an apple, and tour the historic Hanley House.
Best-selling fermentation authors Kirsten and Christopher Shockey will share their fruit pressing skills at the October Annual Scarecrow Festival at Hanley Farm. The Shockeys have co-authored several books, including the best-selling Fermented Vegetables, and share their passion with others as they teach worldwide, and host workshops on their 40-acre homestead in Southern Oregon. We invite you to meet the Shockeys, sample their apple juice, and bring your own fruit to press!
